Organised by Barnes Community Association (BCA), Barnes Fair is an annual event which takes place on the second Saturday in July on and around Barnes Green. First held in 1975, the Fair has grown steadily and now attracts an average of 15,000 visitors throughout the day.
People flock in from all over London and beyond, drawn not only by over three hundred stalls selling everything from plants to vintage clothing, but also the host of other attractions which cater for every age and taste.
The Grand Parade which opens proceedings features decorated floats and vintage vehicles, and the rest of the day is packed with activities and entertainment including live music, fairground rides, Inter-Schools Quiz, clowns and theatre, with a wonderful selection of food and drink also on offer.
Some of the money raised by Barnes Fair goes towards the BCA's running costs, including maintaining its headquarters in Rose House, the historic building in Barnes High Street. The rest is shared between local schools, charities, community groups and projects.
